Damon Ritenhouse is a Partner at EV Has, LLC and is responsible for supervising all aspects of litigation at the office. In this role, he works collaboratively with the other EV attorneys to formulate new legal strategies and tactics. Damon strives to keep up with changes in the law and is always searching for any advantage that can be gained in defense of his client’s rights.

Prior to law school, Damon attended Illinois State University, where he earned both a bachelor’s and master’s degree in Criminal Justice. While attending graduate school, he also worked as at the McLean County State’s Attorney’s Office, advocating for victims of domestic violence and sexual assault.

After moving to Chicago in 2007, Damon began his legal studies at DePaul University College of Law. During law school, Damon was active in the Center for Public Interest Law and earned a certificate for his pro bono service. He was also a 711-licensed law student at the Legal Assistance Foundation of Metropolitan Chicago, where he defended clients in housing court.

Upon receiving his law license, Damon joined EV Has as a foreclosure defense attorney. Since joining the firm, he has handled several hundred residential and commercial foreclosure files and has successfully argued motions in courts all over the state of Illinois. Damon enjoys working with his clients to find solutions to their issues and is proud of the many homes that he has helped to save during his tenure with the firm.

In addition to his work at EV Has, Damon also serves as the supervising attorney for the Neighborhood Legal Assistance Project (NLAP), which is a legal help desk providing brief legal services to homeless clients in the South Loop. He has also published articles on topics including trustee plaintiffs in foreclosure cases, Title VII race discrimination and the rights of gay parents.
